Early Wednesday morning a freight train struck a vehicle on the tracks in the downtown Riverside area. The vehicle was reportedly unoccupied.
BNSF spokeswoman Lena Kent said that at about 3:30 a.m. the vehicle was sitting on train tracks in the area of Commerce and Tenth streets when a BNSF train hit it. The vehicle was not at a crossing.
The BNSF spokeswoman said that all three tracks in the area had been closed until about 4:45 a.m., that’s when two were re-opened and at about 6:30 a.m. the third finally opened.
The Press Enterprise reports Mission Inn Avenuehad been blocked by the crash and as of 5:30 a.m. Third Street was open.
